Hello there!

I’m Maryam Ahmadi, fictional writer.

About me

I’m a fiction writer and educator with a passion for stories that nurture empathy and creativity. My writing blends my Persian heritage with my life and work in London, where I explore belonging, memory, and emotional growth.
I write for both children and adults, from gentle picture books that help young readers understand their emotions to literary fiction that investigates the small, transformative moments that shape who we are.
When I’m not writing, I review children’s books and lead creative writing workshops that invite others to discover the storyteller within.

My works

writing for children

My stories for children grow from the moments I share with the young people I support every day. Working with children with special educational needs has taught me how powerful stories can be in helping little ones understand their emotions, find comfort, and build confidence. I write to help children feel seen, heard, and understood.

My current picture book, The Worry Worm, follows a little worm who feels overwhelmed when a new baby arrives in the family. With the help of his friend Hedgehog, he learns to name his feelings, find comfort, and discover small ways to feel brave again. The story gently supports young children as they navigate change, anxiety, and moments of emotional growth.

writing for adults

My fiction weaves memory, emotion, and cultural identity into quiet, character-driven narratives. My work often moves between Iran and London, following individuals who are caught between the past and the present, between who they were and who they hope to become.

Across short stories, novels, and novellas, I explore a darker emotional landscape: psychological tension, hidden fears, and the subtle mysteries beneath everyday life. I’m especially interested in the fragile space between safety and danger, truth and imagination. My current novella, The Dummies, emerges directly from these shadows.
